Celebrating Sustainability at the BUILDS Recycling Open Day 2024
The BUILDS Recycling Open Day 2024, held at Wisma YTL Cement in Petaling Jaya, marked the grand finale of YTL Cement’s BUILDS Recycling Campaign 2024. Launched as part of the Group’s ongoing sustainability efforts, this year’s campaign expanded nationwide, engaging employees across all plants to collectively surpass the ambitious target of collecting 10,000kg of recyclables. The result was an impressive 81,346.90kg, reflecting the power of teamwork and commitment to environmental responsibility.
The Open Day transformed Wisma YTL Cement into a vibrant hub of environmental enthusiasm, drawing over 150 attendees, including employees, their families, friends, and members of the local community. This spirited celebration highlighted the importance of sustainability while fostering a sense of unity in championing environmental awareness.
The event was supported by a team of volunteers made up of YTL Cement employees who ensured the day ran seamlessly, sorting and organising an impressive 3,173kg of recyclable waste.
Attendees participated in engaging activities designed to raise eco-consciousness. A candle-making workshop, hosted by Hara Makers, provided an opportunity to craft eco-friendly candles, with proceeds going towards the refugee and B40 communities. Fun and interactive mini-games educated both children and adults on the importance of recycling in a light-hearted manner.
Guests also enjoyed refreshing Farm Fresh milk and ice cream, while each attendee received a BUILDS drinking bottle as a token of appreciation for their contribution to the campaign.
The success of this year’s campaign went beyond environmental gains. At the Open Day, funds raised from recyclables were channelled to a local NGO, underscoring YTL Cement’s commitment to sustainability and social impact.
The BUILDS Recycling Campaign 2024 serves as a testament to YTL Cement’s dedication to reducing waste, conserving resources, and fostering a culture of environmental responsibility. Through collective action, we continue to build a sustainable future for generations to come.
